  • Canadian Citizenship Granted to Over 100,000 People This Year

Immigration to Canada continues to give great opportunities to thousands of people from around the globe, including the option to receive Canadian citizenship. For example, Chris Alexander, who is Canada’s Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, announced on May 30, 2014, that 100,000 foreign nationals (who had been issued a Permanent Resident Visa to Canada and met other criteria) had been granted Canadian citizenship during the first five months of 2014. This is over twice the number who were approved for Canadian citizenship during the same time period last year. During all of 2013, Canadian citizenship was granted to 128,996 foreign nationals from 219 countries, which means that 2014 is likely to see significantly more people become new citizens of Canada than last year.

Canada continues to be one of the top immigration destinations in the world. Every year, approximately 250,000 people from various parts of the planet are issued a Permanent Resident Visa to Canada, which authorizes them to live, work and study long-term in this beautiful, multicultural country. Not only does immigration to Canada provide foreign nationals with many economic, educational and other opportunities, but they may also be able to apply for Canadian citizenship in a relatively short period of time after they meet all the requirements. For example, the Canadian government has reported that 1,300,000 people have been granted Canadian citizenship since 2006.

This is one of the best times to apply for a Permanent Resident Visa to Canada, especially since dozens of occupations were added to the list of eligible professions, effective May 1, 2014. Canada needs thousands of skilled tradespeople (such as construction workers and mechanics) and professionals (such as various engineers, physicians, nurses, university professors, and managers in different job sectors, to name some examples). Qualified live-in caregivers and experienced long-haul truck drivers are also in high demand in Canada. Therefore, if you have been thinking about immigration to Canada, now is the perfect time to begin the process.
